Stay Safe This Halloween With These Tips For Parents And Kids

Most kids and adults alike are excited about celebrating Halloween. What makes this more festive and blissful is its 'trick-or-treating' adventure. This is where everyone would like to wear their scariest and funniest costumes and masks.

However, past statistics showed that childhood pedestrian deaths greatly increase during Halloween nights and feasts. There were also reports of children getting lost, food poisoning, fires and other hazards that put the kids at risks.

To eliminate these related incidents, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has provided an updated list of Halloween safety tips. So before heading out, these trick-or-treaters should be informed on how to behave while having fun.

Parents should make sure that their children wear safe costumes and accessories. Reflective tapes and stickers also help car drivers see these kids while on the road. Letting your little ones turn on their flashlights while walking on the side streets also does the job of keeping them safe.

Remind them to be mindful and not use their electronic gadgets while walking. Tell the kids to be extra careful and look on both sides before crossing the road as you kiss them goodbye. Above all, explain to them that they should never go along with strangers as they have to remain alert and aware of what's happening around them.

On the other hand, the government agency does not encourage children below 12 years old to come out on Halloween. It is advisable to walk in groups or better yet, with some adult companions as "solo trick-or-treating" is definitely discouraged.

To avoid food poisoning, examine the treats well before eating. Avoid eating unwrapped candies as these may already be contaminated. Advise the kids to only eat the goodies once they're home so you could supervise.

After the event, be sure to completely remove make-ups or prosthetics. Never let the kids go to bed without cleansing their face and body as these may cause skin or eye irritation.

Hence, homeowners are also reminded to keep an eye on their candle-lit jack-o'-lanterns and luminaries - putting them on safe places, away from pets and children.

These are just some of the Halloween tips that parents and children should be aware of and strictly observe so as to experience a safer and more fun-filled Halloween fun.
