At 40 years of age, former wild child turned 90s megastar Drew Barrymore has long left her party days behind, having settled down a few years back and given birth to Drew Barrymore's children, daughters Olive (3) and Frankie (1) - and the very private actress has confessed that it wasn't all nice and sweet after the birth of their daughters.
Not long after "Nashville" star Hayden Panettiere opened up about her struggles with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter Kaya in late 2014, Barrymore has stepped up to speak about her own experiences with this condition while discussing what it's been like after the birth of Drew Barrymore's children.
Barrymore, currently promoting her new book "Wildflower" as well as her film "Miss You Already," recently gave an interview to People Magazine about her life with her husband and Drew Barrymore's children, explaining that while things are "perfect and totally imperfect," there was a major hitch in the road after the birth of daughter Frankie last year.
"I didn't have postpartum the first time so I didn't understand it because I was like, 'I feel great!' The second time, I was like, 'Oh, whoa, I see what people talk about now. I understand,'" the actress shared with the news outlet, speaking about her experience after the birth of the second of Drew Barrymore's children. "It's a different type of overwhelming with the second. I really got under the cloud."
Yahoo! News reports that Barrymore's stint of postpartum depression was "short-lived, probably six months," and that the actress is now speaking out about what it was like to confront this while raising Drew Barrymore's children - explaining that, while some women feel the need to "injure or hurt" their newborn, she didn't experience this.
According to USA Today, Barrymore emphasized that due to the little exposure postpartum depression gets, it's "something that needs to be talked about," as she joined a series of women who have spoken out on their experiences including Brooke Shields, Courteney Cox, Gwyneth Paltrow and Kendra Wilkinson.
Thankfully, Barrymore's stint didn't last for long, and Drew Barrymore's children can be around their happy mom again.
