Supergirl doesn't take her first official flight on TV until October 26; but some critics have already gotten a sneak peek at her maiden voyage.

IGN's Cliff Wheatley gave the Pilot 7.0 out of 10. He had plenty of Praise for lead actress Melissa Benois writing:

It's certainly not perfect (but what pilot is?) but Supergirl is a fun - if typical - superhero drama with an absolutely magnetic lead actress. Melissa Benoist fully inhabits Kara and her alter-ego, adding a sense of fun and optimism that one would expect from a Superman-inspired world.

Lori Acken of Channel Guide also had good things to say about the former Glee actress

'Arguably, I'm too old and much too fond of PBS to even notice the new CBS dramedy Supergirl. I like Supergirl anyway. I like it a lot.' She writes. 'Much of the credit goes to series star Melissa Benoist, who calls upon the same sweet-meets-steely spunk she displayed as Glee's cheerleader target Marley Rose to play Superman's equally gifted cousin Kara Zor-El.'

It's will be interesting to see how the show will fare in the modern superhero landscape - where mash-ups and crossovers are the name of the game. The likes of Netflix, the CW, and ABC all boast of expansive TV universes for their heroes to play in. on the other hand, Supergirl's Kara Zor-El finds herself the sole member of CBS' superhero lineup.

One thing's for sure, you shouldn't expect Kara's famous cousin to show up anytime soon. Speaking with Hitfix, executive producer Sarah Schechter explained why Superman won't be making any appearances:

I think the reason why Superman's not in the show is because it's not about him. And it's her show and it's about her and he is just sort of a shadow in the back of her psyche, and I think that's the right way to portray him because that's how she experiences it.
