NBCUniversal Unveils Comedy Streaming Service SeeSo

NBCUniversal, a media and entertainment company, will launch the streaming-video landscape with the a large-scale systematic plan of a comedy-focused subscription-video service dubbed as SeeSo.

At an event in New York on Thursday, NBCUniversal unveiled its plans for SeeSo to be launched in December as an invite-only beta but slated for a wider release in January. SeeSo can be subscribed for $3.99 a month, for the streaming-video service to offer up a variety of original series, with an exclusive content and licensed material.

NBCUniversal's SeeSo is going after comedy fans instead of trying to compete for a wider demographic the way the international provider of on-demand Internet streaming media - Netflix does, or the American online company - Hulu or even the new entrants from the television broadcasting company - CBS.

SeeSo got a detailed proposal to hand-curate the content for the site and every month, SeeSo will have guests select on-demand playlists with video recommendations.

Evan Shapiro, NBCUniversal's executive vice president of digital enterprises, stated, "Big streaming services have made a seemingly absurd choice - they're great if you know exactly what to watch, but if you aren't in the middle of a binge, the search can be near endless," Evan Shapiro added, "By paying particular attention on a specific yet large niche, and providing a curated experience, we can make it easier for viewers to find good stuff they might not or cannot find. SeeSo is your neighborhood comedy eatery, with daily specials from a chef you trust."

For SeeSo's first year,  it is preparing more than 20 original series, among them is the animated series from Community's Dan Harmon - HarmonQuest, the UCB Show of the Upright Citizens Brigade, and Bajillion Dollar Propertie$ (a reality spoof show).

That idea of the 20 original series came from the executive producers Scott Aukerman (Emmy Award-winning American writer), the American screenwriter and director Ben Garant, Tom Lennon (best known as a cast member on MTV's The State) and the co-host of the Who Charted? - Kulap Vilaysack.
