A 19-year-old man has been arrested in an investigation into the hacking of webcams at the homes of Miss Teen USA Cassidy Wolf in an attempt to extort nude photographs and videos, according to People Magazine.
Jared James Abrahams of Temecula, Calif., has been arrested and charged with extortion and cyber crimes for hacking into Wolf's personal computer and threatening to go public with nude pictures taken on her webcam. Abrahams threatened to go public with the photos if Wolf did not comply with his demands.
According to FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller, Abrahams charges could send him to federal prison for up to two years. In documents obtained by the Los Angeles Times, the FBI began an investigation of Abrahams in March on suspicion of "sextortion." Abrahams reportedly raided Wolf's home in June, seizing computers, cell phones and hacking software.
Last month, Wolf told NBC News she received an anonymous email earlier this year in which the sender claimed to have stolen images from the camera on her home computer.
"I was cyber hacked and cyber terrorized about four months ago," Wolf said. "My computer and my webcam were hacked into, so I would love to be able to raise awareness."
The sender reportedly threatened to go public with images captures from Wolf's webcam unless she would provided nude pictures of herself, Eimiller said. One investigator stated that Abrahams threatened to turn on woman's dream "of being a model into being a porn star."
According to reports, Wolf is not the only individual who was harassed by Abrahams.
"Abrahams used malicious software to disguise his identity in order to capture nude photos or videos of victims through remote operation of cameras on their home computers without their consent," the charges further state, according to ABC News.
Wolf has not issued a statement yet, but has retweeted a couple of reports about Abrahams' arrest. She'll be appearing on "Today" on Friday morning. According to People, in the affidavit, the victims included several women from other countries.
One teenager in Ireland responded to the demands by writing: "Please remember I'm 17. Have a heart," according to the court record.
Abrahams allegedly responded: "I'll tell you this right now! I do NOT have a heart. However, I do stick to my deals. Also age doesn't mean a thing to me!!!"
According to the court document, he also allegedly received webcam photographs from women in Southern California, Baltimore and Russia.
