'Old Man Logan' Creator Mark Millar Explains Why 'Wolverine 3' Doesn't Need Hawkeye Or The Hulk [SPOILERS]

[POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD, PROCEED WITH CAUTION]

Now that Hugh Jackman has confirmed that 'Wolverine 3' will be based on the Mark Millar graphic novel 'Old Man Logan,' there is no doubt that fans are expecting a few characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make an appearance in the film.

Who could possibly make an appearance in the Wolverine sequel? 'Old Man Logan' features a blind Hawkeye as well as the Hulk. However, both characters belong to Marvel Studios and cannot be used by 20th Century Fox.

So how will this work? 'Old Man Logan' writer Mark Millar says that shouldn't be a problem.

"They're not important to the story," Millar told IGN. "The way I worked that thing is I actually structured it as, I broke it down mechanically - I figured out going from this part of America to that part of America and what he would encounter along the way, and then I added in the adversities later."

Mark Millar expands on how the characters can be switched out.

"Basically Wolverine doing 'The Road' movie is the important thing and he has a friend [a blind Hawkeye] with him," he continued. "But that friend could be Cyclops and he could be blind by the fact that his ruby-quartz visor is broken and he has to keep his eyes closed the whole time and everything, but still insists on driving the car they're crossing America with. There's lots of stuff."

The comic book writer also said it wasn't necessary to feature Bruce Banner in 'Wolverine 3.'

"Instead of the Hulk, you could have the Blob or something," Millar said. "Honestly, the continuity stuff is the most boring side of it. I kind of like it, keeping it in the 'X-Men' universe a little, too, because comic fans are different from the mainstream world."

Mark Millar concluded by saying the film should stick to the basics.

"I know this stuff backwards because I've lived my whole life loving this stuff, but most people don't know all the minutia and everything so I think keeping it simplified and keeping it generally 'X-Men' universe is a smarter thing to do," he said.

'Wolverine 3' is scheduled for release on March 3, 2017.
