Veteran actor Robert de Niro has become the latest celebrity to walk out on an interview!
According to The Independent, the star of the comedy 'The Intern' decided to cut an interview short when he didn't like the line of questions being asked by a Radio Times reporter. The incident happened during a press junket for his new film.
Emma Brockes, a writer for the website, had allegedly inquired how the Oscar winner manages to avoid going on "autopilot" mode in his films. To make matters worse, Brockes followed up commenting on Tribeca in New York. Robert de Niro had co-founded a film festival in the district, which, according to Brockes, has been taken over by bankers.
According to Emma Brockes, the 'Raging Bull' star immediately asked her to stop her recorder and claimed he wanted to stop the conversation because of the "negative interference" of her comment. The reporter tried to ask Robert de Niro what had gone wrong, but the actor kept insisting that she had "negative interference" and refused to speak to her, saying "I'm not doing this, darling."
The reporter responded, "I think you're very condescending." Robert de Niro simply said, "Oh, you think 'darling' is condescending?"
Emma Brockes wrote about the incident, but she also admitted that she understood why Robert de Niro reacted the way he did.
"I have sympathy with De Niro because nobody wants to be there for these choreographed junket interviews," Brockes told The Independent. "I was expecting him to be a little quiet but the combination of hostility and condescension irritated me and I ended up losing my cool. I certainly didn't go in looking for an argument but when it happened I did think 'at least he's finally saying something.'"
'The Intern' also stars Anne Hathaway. The film premiered on September 23 and is currently showing in theaters.
