Blood Moon: Supermoon And Lunar Eclipse To Appear At The Same Time

For the first time in 30 years, a supermoon and lunar eclipse will appear together on the night skies and this will not be happening again until the next 20 years.

On the night of September 27, the supermoon and lunar eclipse will be visible at the same time in North and South America, and on the next morning in Europe, Africa, and Central Asia. The Asia Pacific, however, could not be able to witness this rare spectacle.

According to NASA, a supermoon occurs when the celestial body is at its closest to Earth - appearing 14 percent bigger than a regular full moon.

Huffington Post reports the last time a supermoon and lunar eclipse appeared together was in 1982. This event won't happen again until 2033.

For the US, the supermoon will light up the skies on the 27th, Sunday at 6:07pm PT/9:07pm ET. The total lunar eclipse will occur just more than an hour later and will remain visible for at least an hour.

According to EarthSky, this supermoon-lunar eclipse is also called the harvest moon - a full moon nearing the autumnal equinox.

For Christian minister, John Hagee, however, the "Blood Moon" on Sept. 27-28 isn't just a night-time spectacle as he claims this will be a sign of an apocalypse.

During the promotion of his book "Four Blood Moons," Hagee said this fourth blood moon is a fulfilment of the biblical prophecy referring to an on-going tetrad. As reported, the first three blood moons happened in April 14-15, 2014, October 7-8, 2014, and April 4, 2015.

"The coming four blood moons points to a world-shaking event that will happen between April 2014 and October 2015," Hagee said.

As written in Revelation 6:12, a blood moon reference is included in the Seven Seals. "I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood."

Scientists and skeptics immediately trashed Hagee's predictions.

According to the bible, nobody could predict the exact time of the earth's rapture. As written in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2: "Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren, you have no need of anything to be written to you. For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night."
