'One Direction' Helps Comic Relief Charity, Red Nose Day March 15

One Direction is a Pop music group that was discovered in 2010 on the hit show, 'The X Factor'. In two years, the popular group has accumulated an enormous fan base; it consists primarily of teenage girls. Many of these girls dubbed themselves "Directioners" and spend countless hours on the internet dedicated to One Direction. These girls create blogs, Twitter and Facebook pages showcasing their undying love for the popular boy band. The music video for What Makes You Beautiful has over 346,000,000 hits on YouTube. The single topped the United States Billboard Hot 100; it also topped Singles Charts in Canada, New Zealand and Japan.

The boys of One Direction are using their voices to do more than just entertain their legion of female fans. They are helping Comic Relief, a UK based charity to raise money for Red Nose Day which is on March 15.

According to the Red Nose Day Facebook page, the money raised for Red Nose Day is spent by Comic Relief to change countless lives across the UK and Africa. The whole day culminates with a rather spectacular night of telly on the BBC, featuring hilarious comedy, celebrity shenanigans and top TV treats.

The One Direction Facebook page is currently promoting Red Nose Day by encouraging fans to click on their latest music video they made for the charity. They decided to make the music video themselves in order to save money and donate what they would have spent to the charity. The video is a remake of Blondie's, One Way Or Another; they also released a single on iTunes. The money the single earns will be donated to the charity.

There are people on the internet that are not fans of the group because of their wholesome image. Success often brings along criticism. But One Direction's star is not fading anytime soon. The popular boy band was able to achieve a large fan base in a short period of time; they currently have two hit albums, Up All Night and Take Me Home. They have over 10,000,000 Twitter followers along with dozens of Tumblr pages dedicated to them.
