Melissa McCarthy is becoming Hollywood's reigning new queen of comedy. McCarthy's newest film Identity Thief has earned almost $100 million at the box office in just 22 days. In the film, McCarthy plays a woman that steals a businessman's identity and has a blast doing so.
She also starred on the television show Mike & Molly and made a lasting impression in Bridesmaids. McCarthy began her career doing stand up and performing in Improv troupes. She trained at The Groundlings. The Groundlings is an Improv training center based in Los Angeles that is known for creating stars. Famous names such as Kristen Wiig, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Fallon and Phil Hartman all began their careers performing at The Groundlings.
She also had a minor role in This Is 40, a comedy about a woman's resentment towards becoming the big 40. She played a crazy mom that confronts the lead character, Debbie (Leslie Mann), after she said some harmful things to her son in which caused him to cry. McCarthy's onscreen son had been sending nasty Facebook messages which caused Debbie to become concerned about her child's well being.
McCarthy completely stole the show when her, Debbie and Pete (Paul Rudd) have a meeting in the principal's office in regards to the confrontation. She goes crazy telling the principal that this couple looks like they popped out of a bank commercial. She then proceeded to use foul language expressing her hate for the principal. She told her husband probably killed himself because of what a horrible person she is.
There is no doubt McCarthy is becoming Hollywood's biggest name in terms of comedy. She steals the show with minor roles. It is rumored that she will have a role in The Hangover Part III. The film will bring back its lead stars, Bradley Cooper and Zach Galifiankis. It is set to be released in to theaters nationwide on May 24, 2013. This time around the boys will not be experiencing any weddings or bachelor parties but instead a road trip. Heather Graham will also be reprising her role and John Goodman will also be making an appearance.
