Funders will get their Pebble watches starting January 23, announced the company that is making the enviable little devices. Gadget lovers, runners, and geeks lined up during the funding phase last year, and are being rewarded by this surprise announcement at the Consumer Electronics Show.
The watch features e-ink style lcd display technology, with 144x168 screen resolution. There are beautiful watchfaces, as well as the ability to connect to your smartphone to show emails, texts, and app information. There is also magnetic charging, as well as Bluetooth 4.0, and a backlight - handy for those who are running early in the morning or late at night.
Water resistance was touted by the company, as well as the estimated battery life of over 7 days.
Pebble CEO Eric Migicovsky is apparently quite forward-looking, as he mentioned that the team delayed launch to allow for the most updated technology to be included. However, they were ecstatic at having been able to make it in time for the CES conference this year.
The Kickstarter project broke records when it hauled in $10 million in funds.
On its website, the Pebble interestingly notes that the watchface is on all the time, just as other analog and digital watches are. Its Bluetooth is expected to use up approximately 5-10% of the battery from your smartphone, so be prepared for some battery drain.
CES has been relatively slow this year, which means the Pebble actually makes a really big splash. When early adopters get their hands on it, we'll see if it lives up to the hype.
