Kristen Stewart has been Karl Lagerfeld’s muse for some time, but now the pair are taking their relationship to the next level and working together on a short film about Coco Chanel.

The 25-year-old star, who is currently the face of the Chanel Spring/Summer 2015 eyewear campaign, was tapped by the fashion house’s creative director to play the role of a young version of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel in a fictionalized biopic of the designer.

Karl Lagerfeld hired Kristen Stewart after she reportedly impressed him in the audition.

“She played it really, really mean,” he revealed to WWD. “You only see her in tests and she’s complaining about everything. She’s mean with the director, mean with the producer.”

The publication also report that when Karl was asked why he decided to direct a film he replied: "They make so many movies about Chanel, why can’t I make one?"

Kristen Stewart follows in the footsteps of actresses Keira Knightley and Geraldine Chaplin, both of whom were tapped by Karl Lagerfeld to play the founder of the fashion house in his short films. The movie will be screened at the Chanel Metiers d’Arts show in Rome on December 1.

Also starring in the biopic is Geraldine Chaplin, who will portray Chanel in middle age, as well as Harper’s Bazaar editor Laura Brown, who will play an American journalist.

Kristen Stewart has been a fixture on the Chanel front row for several years now as well as starring in campaigns for the fashion house.

She previously told PEOPLE working with the fashion legend is a lot less intimidating than one might think.

“Really, his image is in contrast to what it’s really like to be around him,” she said. “There’s something almost unapproachable and f***ing chic … And then you meet him and he’s actually an incredibly creative and voracious liver.”

She added: “His personal library in Paris that we shot the campaign in, you look around and the staff is like, ‘Now, can you believe he’s actually read all of these books?’ and you’re like, ‘I kind of actually can.’ He’s an impressive guy. He definitely is so much more than the glasses and the hair than you might think he is.”
