Man From Zimbabwe Also Charged With Cecil The Lion Killing For Allowing Illegal Hunting

Following the death of Cecil the lion in July, Zimbabwe has charged a man for allowing illegal hunting on his land which lead to the animal's killing by American dentist Walter James Palmer.

Honest Ndlovu lives in a farm area near the Hwange National Park, where Cecil the lion used to reside in. According to investigations, Ndlovu allowed Palmer to hunt down and kill Cecil using a bow and arrow when he was lead to his property.

He was remanded yesterday, August 18, as prosecutors also put him responsible for Cecil's death along with the dentist.

Tonderai Mukuku, Ndlovu's lawyer, released a statement via phone and said the Ndlovu has paid a $200 bail and the case has been re-scheduled for a hearing on September 18, Friday. The charges are subject to one-year imprisonment and a $400 fine.

Palmer on the other hand, has his name appearing in court as the "hunting client" but reports said that there was currently no mentioned charges against him.

While Palmer has not been officially charged for killing Cecil the lion, many people are putting the blame solely on him. Among them is Oppah Muchinguro, the Zimbabwe's environment, water and climate minister, who said that Palmer should be held primarily responsible for Cecil's death.

However, the National Prosecuting Authority declined to release a statement in the possible charges that can be thrown against Palmer.

Bronkhorst, a professional animal hunter who also helped Palmer during his hunt for Cecil, has also been charged for failing to "prevent an illegal hunt."

Prior to Cecil's death, a lion was also killed in Zimbabwe last April and another American named Jan Caismir Seski, was accused by the authorities.

After the killing incident, Zimbabwe has tightened the rules and regulations for leopard, elephant and lion hunting in the country.
