Comedy Central's hit series, "Key & Peele" garnered several - eight to be exact -- Emmy nominations earlier this month, but it seems as though those nominations aren't enough to make the show stay on the screen.
"Key & Peele" is currently running on its fifth and final season, according to co-creator and star Keegan-Michael Key.
"This is our final season - and it's not because of Comedy Central, it's us," Key told TheWrap on Friday.
Keegan-Michael Key continued, "It was just time for us to explore other things, together and apart. I compare it to Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. We might make a movie and then do our own things for three years and then come back and do another movie."
"I'm thinking we could do that every three years - take a year, go bang out a movie. That's the plan right now," he added.
Both Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele didn't intend on letting everyone know about the end of the comedy series. Key said, "but Jordan and I were talking yesterday, and we decided it's probably a good time to let people know."
But not to fret, everyone can still get their fix of the two comedians. "There will be Key & Peele productions coming up. We're doing the reboot of 'Police Academy,' and there's a TV show in the works that me might do for Comedy Central. There's lots of stuff we have cooking up," said Key.
"Key & Peele" first aired season five on Comedy Central on July 8. The series will come to an end on September.
However, fans can catch both Key and Peele on their upcoming film, "Keanu" which was co-written by Peele, and directed by "Key & Peele" director Peter Atencio.
"Key & Peele" became famous for their sketches like "East/West Bowl," Obama's Anger Translator," and "I Said B-ch."
