Sigourney Weaver Wanted To Kill Ellen Ripley Because Of 'Alien Vs Predator!' Will She Return In Neill Blomkamp's Reboot?

Ripley might be coming back!

Sigourney Weaver recently spoke up about why she wanted to kill off her iconic 'Alien' character Ellen Ripley and what she thinks about Neill Blomkamp's upcoming reboot of the cult classic.

According to Radio Times, the actress confirmed in an interview that she decided it was time for Ripley to go because of an upcoming 'Alien' movie. When asked if she had made the decision to kill off the Nostromo Warrant Officer, her response was succinct.

"Well, yes - because I heard that Fox was going to do 'Alien vs Predator,' which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies."

'Alien vs Predator' was a film based on the Dark Horse comic series that pits the two extraterrestrials against each other. It later spawned a video game and several novels.

Weaver continues to say that 'Aliens' director James Cameron felt the same way about 'Alien vs Predator.'

"I've nothing against building a movie on a video game but at the time, it was, as Jim Cameron said I think publically, 'why would you want to do that?'" she said. "It's like making Alien meets the Wolfman."

According to Weaver, the 2004 crossover film didn't just kill Ripley; it also stopped Ridley Scott from directing a sequel to 'Aliens.'

"In fact Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until [AVP] was announced, and he dropped out," Weaver said, "because he also wanted to do an Alien sequel."

'Alien vs Predator' was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson and starred Sanaa Lathan, Ewen Bremner and Raoul Bova. It also featured Lance Henriksen, who had previously appeared as the android Bishop in 'Aliens.'

Sigourney Weaver was much happier talking about Neill Blomkamp's reboot of 'Alien.' When a fan asked whether Ripley might finally get a happy ending in the film, she had a cryptic answer.

"Well, it's certainly something we've discussed," Weaver said. "I agree. She's had kind of a crap life, many interruptions."

The yet-untitled 'Alien' reboot will reportedly be filmed in Vancouver.
