Apple has introduced Apple Pay in the UK, allowing iPhone users to make a more convenient tap-and-go purchases. The mobile payment service can be utilized using iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or Apple Watch in different outlets across the country.
Apple Pay, which was first launched in the US last yea,r is available in London Underground stations, coffee shops, retailers and travel business centers.
Vice President of Apple Pay Jennifer Bailey revealed that, "We actually think that the UK can be our leading market for Apple Pay, given the unique characteristics (of the market)."
British institutions like the London Underground have introduced payment methods that are 'contactless' to provide convenience to customers. The opportunity was seen by Apple which led them to launching the payment service on Tuesday after Barclays signed up.
To provide convenience is the main purpose of Apple Pay which offers faster service compared to other contactless payment options available. Using the customers' Apple devices, they can man scan the image of their credit or debit cards using the built-in camera. Through text message, email or phone call they can confirm the details from their bank.
Apple Pay can be used in making payments by simply holding their Apple devices near the outlet's working contactless terminal while touching the fingerprint ID button of the device. In Apple Watches, buyers can double-tap the screen.
The small transaction fee makes the service even more appealing to consumers. Many banks have committed to support the payment service which amazed the tech company.
However, a problem has occurred which disappointed the users. HSBC users were surprised to know that their bank does not support Apple Pay yet. The banking company explained that their account holders will have to wait until July 28 to experience the service.
Barclays, the only UK bank which failed to create a partnership with Apple, has confirmed to sign up to the service.
"We are really excited about the launch of Apple Pay and will bring Barclays debit cards and Barclaycard credit cards to Apple Pay in future," tweeted Barclays.
Among the banks which cannot yet offer the service until autumn are Bank of Scotland, Lloyds, M&S Bank, Halifax, and TSB.
