The peanut butter recall list has increased in the past few days as more brands as well as more products are taken out of stores as precaution in light of some thirty salmonella cases across the United States.
The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) originally announced that the investigation of a salmonella outbreak in several US states would focus on Trader Joe's Valencia Creamy Salted Peanut Butter, as it was assumed a likely source. Trader Joe immediately started to recall the product.
Even though no other products aside from Trader Joe's peanut butter have been linked to salmonella cases, New Mexico-based Sunland Corp. decided as a precautionary measure to voluntarily recall 101 products that "may be contaminated with Salmonella," according to the Food and Drug Administration.

Some of the brand names included in the list of products are Target's Archer Farms, Safeway's Open Nature, Earth Balance, and Fresh & Easy. The newly listed brands are sold at Whole Foods, Krogers, Target, and other retailers. Added to the recalled items were now also products made with Sunland peanut butters, such as peanut butter sandwich crackers and bars.
To date, some 30 salmonella cases have been reported in 19 states, with four hospitalized and no deaths.
