Nintendo: No Virtual Reality Headset in the Horizon

Nintendo has publicly stated that it has no plan of developing virtual reality headsets like the Oculus Rift as the gaming company prefers to create products that can be played by a number of people.

This decision was influenced by the company's producer and designer Shigeru Miyamoto who was not fascinated by the virtual reality technology. Miyamoto has been with Nintendo since 1977 and he is highly respected by the staffs and employees.

During the Japanese shareholders meeting which happens annually, Miyamoto expressed his views and opinions on the latest technology in gaming. He stated, "The current software for these virtual reality devices cannot be played simultaneously by a number of people."

Nintendo is known for creating games that can be played by the whole family, and the latest VR upgrades only offer single player modes, which is not the concentration of the company. Miyamoto doubts how Sony and Oculus VR would market their products to gamers given its isolated nature.

The Mario maker believes that the aforementioned gaming companies stepped beyond the boundaries and even showing products that are obviously still under development.

"Also, many demonstrations for virtual-reality devices have been conducted at recent trade shows, and at this year's E3, I noticed a number of dream-like demonstrations for which the schedule and format for commercialisation are unknown," Miyamoto stated during the shareholders meeting.

During the shareholders meeting, questions regarding the company's rating during the June expo have been raised. According to assessments, Nintendo had the worst exhibition.

The company CEO Satoru Iwata accepts the criticisms of the fans who were disappointed during the event. Iwata was aware that many visitors of the event were expecting more than what they showed.
