The world is looking forward to the sequel of last year's surprise hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' and no one is more excited than director James Gunn.
The director recently attended the Saturn Awards, where he won the Best Film Director Award for 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' Collider got to ask Gunn about 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2,' which he says will be more emotional than the first film.
"I think it's a more emotional movie," the director said. "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters."
Gunn's statement may mean a backstory for main characters like Drax the Destroyer (David Bautista), Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Rocket (voiced by Bradley Cooper). Fans may also expect the revelation of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father.
"We get to learn a lot about fathers in the second movie," Gunn said. He was also asked about the 'Awesome Mix Vol. 2,' which the director said he hasn't heard yet.
"We haven't listened to 'Awesome Mix 2' yet, so we get to hear it in the sequel," he teased.
Gunn was also asked about his new movie 'The Belko Experiment,' which he says is "one of the greatest experiences of my career." He also said that the cast of the film is "the best ensemble I've seen in my life." He also admits that he has made new friends while making the film, citing actor Tony Goldwyn as one of the people he recently got close with.
'The Belko Experiment' also stars 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star and long-time Gunn collaborator Michael Rooker. The actor plays a good guy in 'The Belko Experiment' and is also expected to reprise his role as the ravager Yondu in 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2.'
'The Belko Experiment' will hit theaters next year while 'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' is slated for release in 2017.
