'Guardians Of The Galaxy 2': Benicio Del Toro Talks About Why The Collector Is Collecting So Many Items [SPOILERS]

The surprise 2014 hit movie 'Guardians of the Galaxy' featured a slew of talented actors, including man of the moment Chris Pratt. It also starred Puerto Rican actor Benicio Del Toro as Taneleer Tivan, a character whose role in the film was surprisingly small despite his obvious connection to the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.

The 'Usual Suspects' actor recently spoke to IGN about playing The Collector in the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' sequel.

"I would like to keep working on that character, though," Del Toro said. "It was kind of like a cameo. I would like to keep developing the character based on what's written in the comic books. I'd like to see some different sides. I had a blast working with James Gunn and the cast - but it's not up to me."

Fans may agree with Del Toro on this one. The Collector's role might be essential in pushing the Infinity Gauntlet storyline forward, since he possesses some of the Infinity Stones.

The actor also revealed some insight on the eccentric character.

[WARNING, POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD]

"I learned a lot about the character," Del Toro admitted. "One of the most interesting things that I learned about him is the reasons that he's collecting. He sees himself as putting together Noah's Ark. He sees himself as having that responsibility. He's collecting things, because eventually there's going to be an apocalypse in the universe and he wants to get things to safety. That's a really interesting aspect of the character."

Del Toro's revelation proves that Taneleer Tivan may be more crucial than just the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' storylines. The Collector may well be one of the most important characters in the highly awaited 'Avengers: Infinity War' movies.

The actor may be uncertain of his future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he continues to find interesting roles. Del Toro will appear with Josh Hutcherson in the thriller 'Escobar: Paradise Lost' which premieres on June 26.
