When the Galaxy S III launched state-side early summer, many thought the new smartphone would go head to head with Apple's new iPhone 5. Although the S III is competing for market shares with Apple's new consumer favorite, the device's performance has aged considerably since its debut, causing shoppers to speculate in a relatively quick release of the next-generation Galaxy S.
Across news publications and web forums, one can follow the sometimes credible, sometimes amusing rumors thought up by smartphone users, as to what exactly the next-generation Galaxy S will be like.
Last week several publications reported on rumors based on an article in the Korea Times, which had cited an anonymous source inside Samsung, claiming the Galaxy S 4 (or S IV) would be launched at the Mobile World Congress next year, before being released to consumers sometime in March, 2013.
The rumor was blown up much thanks to Korea Times credible reputation, and it remains to be seen if it holds true, but what followed all the attention was a slap on the fingers by Samsung, which posted a short statement on its Korean Twitter account:
"Please note that some media reported speculation that the Galaxy S III subsequent models will be released "in a simple rumor is not true. Fixed'm not doing anything, why spread these rumors," says the translation from Google. So no date has been fixed as of yet and the rumor is simply not true, according to Samsung.
Meanwhile, at least one new phone has been confirmed in the Korean company's Galaxy line-up, the Samsung Galaxy Note II, which has already debuted in India.
The U.S. release date for the Galaxy Note II was recently confirmed to mid-November when it can be picked up at all major U.S. carriers.
