Marvel is definitely on a roll. With 'Ant-man' on the way and 'Captain America: Civil War' already in production, Marvel Studios is now on the hunt for directors for 'Black Panther' and 'Captain Marvel.'
Marvel president Kevin Feige recently spoke to THR about the upcoming 'Ant-man' with Paul Rudd, and also answered questions about the other Marvel films on the way.
Feige was asked whether he felt pressured to find a black director for 'Black Panther' or a female director for 'Captain Marvel.'
"It's an issue across the industry, for sure. And the issue is, we need to find the best director for any given movie. And that's really where we always start," Feige responded. "If diversity is part of that, it's great. It's important. You will start to see things across the industry as a whole change as more filmmakers come up through the ranks and become part of making movies like this."
THR then asked if the studio would have wanted a woman to direct one of the new movies, and Feige had a cryptic response.
"I think it will happen sooner rather than later, without giving too much away," he said.
This led to the inquiry on whether 'Selma' director Ava DuVernay was being considered to helm 'Black Panther.'
"We've met with her for sure," Feige confirmed. "We've met with a number of people for a number of movies. She has been one of them."
It was not specified whether one of the people Feige met with was Angelina Jolie. There were speculations that Marvel has been interested in getting the 'Salt' actress to direct 'Captain Marvel.' However, the rumors also state that Jolie only wants to take on the project if Charlize Theron is cast in the lead part.
'Black Panther' will hit theaters on July 6, 2018 while 'Captain Marvel' is scheduled for release on November 2, 2018.
