Kevin Spacey Amazon Studios: Frank Underwood Playing Richard Nixon In 1970 Against Michael Shannon’s Elvis Presley

Fresh off his first Golden Globe win for playing Machiavellian Democrat politician Frank Underwood in the Netflix staple series "House of Cards," the two-time Oscar winning actor will be releasing a new political drama, seeing the first time Kevin Spacey and Amazon Studios ever collide.

Although the deal between Kevin Spacey and Amazon Studios would seem like a conflict of interests, in fact the work, "Elvis & Nixon," will be a full-feature film and not a series, and it will be debuting on the big screen as the studio responsible for "Transparent" and "Mozart in the Jungle" delves deeper into film work.

According to Variety, the Kevin Spacey Amazon Studios deal had been in the works for a month, as the production company wing of Amazon.com pushed to acquire the film's domestic rights; it wasn't the only company attempting to do so, as both Lionsgate and Bleecker Street had been pushing to make the purchase.

Deadline reports that the Kevin Spacey Amazon Studios deal actually sees the big company joining forces with Bleecker Street after buying domestic rights, as it'll be Bleecker handling the release of the film, which will only happen in theaters.

The Kevin Spacey Amazon Studios deal was negotiated by CAA and producer Cassian Elwes, and it marks Amazon's very first major venture into the big screen, after its biggest competitor, Netflix, finished a contract with Leonardo Di Caprio for a series of documentaries and Brad Pitt's production company for the movie "War Machine."

According to The Wrap, "Elvis & Nixon" will see the "American Beauty" actor starring as former President Richard Nixon, in a film that details the events of the politician's 1970 meeting with the King of Rock 'n Roll, Elvis Presley (played by "Man of Steel" villain Michael Shannon).

The movie will also feature "Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville, Tom Hanks' son Colin and Alex Pettyfer.

There's still no official theatrical release date for the Kevin Spacey Amazon Studios movie.
