The upcoming Marvel sequel 'X-Men: Apocalypse' seems to be missing a few key actors in the mix. Hugh Jackman, who has played Wolverine in all the X-Men movies, is keeping mum about an expected cameo. Fans of the franchise are also talking about the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Ian McKellan as Magneto.
McKellen has just put an end to the rumors. When Digital Spy asked if it was true that he would reprise his role as Magneto in the movie, the actor had the perfect reply.
"I haven't heard that, I don't think I am, no, no," McKellen said. "They are currently making the film and I'm not in it."
He also poked fun at the new Magneto: "Michael Fassbender probably couldn't get any work, so we let him do it. He's got three movies coming out this year, you'd think he'd let me do one of them."
McKellen, who has portrayed Erik Lensherr in all but one X-Men movie, claimed that the franchise was always better than other fantasy films.
"I've always thought the X-Men stories were superior, to my taste, to any other fantasy movies because they were about something," the actor said. "'X-Men' is about what it is to be different, what it is to be a mutant, and society's attitude towards difference and all that. That's an important social thing to discuss."
The 'Lord of the Rings' actor is understandably proud that he was a part of the franchise, but also addresses that he had other projects to work on.
"I was very happy to be a part of the films but I have other things to be doing," McKellen said. "I've just done 'Mr. Holmes,' I just done some filming for a sitcom, a film for BBC TV with Anthony Hopkins, so there are compensations for not getting caught up in blockbusters."
'X-Men: Apocalypse' will be released on May 27, 2016.
