Game of Thrones Finale: What were the fates of Jon Snow, Stannis, and Cersei? [SPOILERS]

Game of Thrones Finale: What were the fates of Jon Snow, Stannis, and Cersei? [SPOILERS]

'Valar Morghulis, All men must die.' Is a line Game of Thrones fans are no doubt familiar with by now. Over the course of five seasons, anyone who follows the hit HBO fantasy series has probably seen their fair share of shocking deaths and decapitations. Who could forget Ned Stark's untimely demise back in season 1? or his son Robb's equally shocking murder in the infamous Red Wedding. What about Prince Oberyn Martell getting bested by The Mountain at the last minute? Don't forget about King Joffrey choking on his Wedding Day.

It's clear by now that in the world of Westeros, no man, no matter how powerful is safe. If you thought the show could never top its string of iconic deaths, you better check out the recently concluded season five finale, because it may have delivered its biggest shock yet.

Jon Snow, commander of the night's watch, and one of the key remaining members of the fan favourite Stark family, was seemingly killed off in tonight's episode. Social media will no doubt be rumbling the next few days, as theories will fly left and right as to whether this is really the end for Ned Stark's bastard son.

The character, played by actor Kit Harrington, is in a similar situation in the book series on which the show is based. Snow is perhaps the Show's most debated character and features in many of the series longest running debates, such as the one concerning his true parentage.

Also suffering Snow's fate was the self-styled King of Westeros Stannis Baratheon, whose shocking actions in the previous episode seem to have been for nothing. Many have been critical of Stannis portrayal in the show vs. the books, and his seeming demise in the finale is the biggest change in the character so far.

Other loose ends that need to be answered next season include the fates of Cersei and Daenaerys. Cersei was last seen suffering through her infamous 'walk of shame' while the Mother of Dragons finds herself the captive of a Dothraki horde.

What will season six hold? We'll have to wait a year to find out.
