Melissa McCarthy's 'Spy' Infiltrates Weekend Box Office, 'Insidious 3' Spooks Audiences, 'Entourage' Ride Still Ain't Over

The new action comedy 'Spy' has infiltrated the weekend box office to reach the top spot. 'San Andreas' shook things up hard enough to make more money than 'Insidious: Chapter 3' and 'Entourage.' The long drive isn't over for 'Mad Max: Fury Road' as it continues to earn at the box office.

According to Rentrak, Melissa McCarthy's latest project made $30 million during its opening weekend. The film, which was originally titled 'Susan Cooper,' was directed by long-time McCarthy collaborator Paul Feig. The two have previously worked on hits like 'Bridesmaids' and 'The Heat,' with Sandra Bullock.

'Spy' follows Susan Cooper (McCarthy), a desk-bound CIA analyst. After her partner (Jude Law) is allegedly killed by his target's daughter (Rose Byrne), Susan is turned into a field agent with the help of Rick Ford (Jason Statham).

The film also stars Allison Janney, Bobby Cannavale, Morena Baccarin and 50 Cent.

'San Andreas' managed to nab second place at the box office by making $26.4 million, barely edging out 'Insidious: Chapter 3.' The Dwayne Johnson film has made a total of $99.1 million since its release on May 29.

The third 'Insidious' movie is actually a prequel to the first two films and stars Dermot Mulroney and Stefanie Scott. Despite high expectations, the supernatural horror movie only made $23 million during its opening weekend.

There were also high expectations for another film that premiered before the weekend. The full-length continuation of the HBO series 'Entourage' opened on June 3 and only made $7.4 million. Over the weekend, it earned another $10.4 million, making a total of $17.8 million domestically.

Rounding off the box office top five is the wildly successful 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' which made an additional $8 million on its third weekend. The grand total of George Miller's masterpiece now comes to an astounding $130.8 million across North America.
