Lioness Kills American Tourist in African Park

In Africa, a lioness attacked an American tourist leading to her death, with her tour guide severely injured, Monday. This happened during their drive-through park trip, where the visitors reportedly failed to close their windows, BuzzFeed reports.

The incident occurred at the JHB Lion Park in Johannesberg. A lioness reportedly leaped through the car window on the passenger-seat side and mauled the tourist to death. The tour guide, who was driving the car, tried to take the tourist off the lion's paw, but failed to save her.

The driver is currently under medical treatment due to severe injuries.

Scott Simpson, who works at the park, tells Eye Witness that an ambulance arrived immediately, but the tourist was already dead.

Simpson added that it has been strictly enforced for park visitors to close their car windows when diving through the wild. Clear safety instructions were given to tourists before being exposed to lions.

"We have signage up everywhere informing people to keep their windows closed. We hand out flyers as they are driving in reminding them to keep their windows closed. We really do everything we can to make sure that people know that," Simpson said.

It has also been reported three months ago that an Australian tourist was bitten by a lion when he drove around the park with open windows.

Simpson stressed out that visitors should take these safety instructions seriously.

Big cats like lions have very wild instincts, perceiving humans as their prey, especially in closer interactions.

Aside from getting through car windows, lions can also open doors. A video of a lioness opening an unlocked car door was captured by women who visited an African park. Joshua Sutherland posted his sisters' clip on Youtube, saying they "had an experience of a lifetime."

Car doors should also be locked at all times when ni an area filled with these animals.
