Kevin James Shoots a Smurf in 'Pixels' Trailer [VIDEO]

Comedian Kevin James is known for playing regular joes in his movies. He has played a mall cop, a zookeeper and even a biology teacher. However, in the upcoming adventure comedy 'Pixels,' James gets to play the President of the United States.

He's not just a regular president, either. In the new trailer for the movie, James takes on a pixelized dancing Smurf.

The trailer introduces Sam Brenner (Adam Sandler), Will Cooper (James), Ludlow Lamonsoff (Josh Gad), and Eddie "The Fire Blaster" Plant (Peter Dinklage), who all grew up playing games in video arcades. As grown-ups, Cooper becomes president and needs the help of his friends to save the world from invading video game characters.

The characters are actually sent by aliens who have misunderstood video games as a declaration of war. The former arcaders must team up with Lt. Col. Violet Van Patten (Michelle Monaghan), who will supply them with weapons to fight off PAC-MAN, Donkey Kong and Galaga.

James got his big break playing Doug Heffernan in the CBS series 'The King of Queens.' His performance in the series earned him a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. The comedian's feature film debut was in the Will Smith comedy 'Hitch.'

James also had lead roles in movies like 'I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry,' 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' and 'Here Comes The Boom.' His most recent project is the drama 'Little Boy,' which was released on April 24.

'Pixels' is based on Patrick Jean's 2010 short film of the same name. The full-length movie is directed by Chris Columbus and also stars Sean Bean, Jane Krakowski, Ashley Benson and Brian Cox. PAC-MAN creator Toru Iwatani will be played by Denis Akiyama.

The movie is scheduled for release on July 24, 2015.
