The Minnesota-based company is turning 75 today, and they're celebrating along with fans with a Free Cone Day, as Dairy Queen's vanilla ice cream makes a full appearance all over the country, as the company also teams up with a big charity for the occasion.

While the Dairy Queen's vanilla ice cream is getting all the headlines today due to the freebies, there's also a bigger goal behind this, as the company based in the Minneapolis suburb of Edina, Minnesota, also asking for donations to the Children's Miracle Network throughout the day.

Only a few weeks ago, Food World News reported that, on National Frozen Yogurt Day, Menchie's was giving out free cones of the delicious dessert, but Dairy Queen's vanilla ice cream promo for the day gets rep for being entirely different, as it honors both the company's years in the business as well as its loyal customers of generations in the country.

According to Lancaster Online, the Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream comes during the celebration of their 75 "Fanniversary," as they have chosen to call it due to their slogan "Fan food, not fast food."

According to Patch, the chain began its operations in 1940 in Jolliet, Illinois, and has become the largest ice cream chain in the country, with 5,900 locations in 49 states, plus about a dozen different other countries, so there'll be a lot of venues across the country getting some free Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream cones this March 16.

"This is all about connecting with our fans and not just about telling them, but showing them how much we appreciate their loyalty," said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of marketing for the company, in a statement about the free Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream, Entrepreneur reports. "After all, our fans have been supporting us for 75 years, so we thought it would be fun to bring the celebration to them."
