With the wave of superhero adaptations flocking into the big and small screens, featuring Marvel and DC Comics fighting over spots on box office weekends and TV ratings, the latest "Supergirl" 2015 cast news fill even more superhero needs ... as another beloved TV superman joins the cast!

In the 90s, Dean Cain starred as Clark Kent/Superman in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" along with "Desperate Housewives" actress Teri Hatcher, who played Lois Lane; now, as the "Supergirl" 2015 cast is announced further, it seems like the people producing the show want to give a big wink to fans of the man of steel.

According to Christian Post, the latest news about the "Supergirl" 2015 cast don't only include Dean Cain, but also an actress who played Linda Danvers/Kara Zor-El in the past, namely Helen Slater, though it's unknown what role she'd be playing.

This wouldn't be the first time that there's such a wink in Superman adaptations; during the "Smallville" run starring Tom Welling as Kal-El, the actor who made a name for himself playing the character in the 70s and 80s, Christopher Reeve, also guest-starred in a small role.

As Blastr reports, Helen Slater joins the "Supergirl" 2015 cast after having starred as the Krypton native in the 1984 film "Supergirl," co-starring Oscar-winning actress Faye Dunaway and "Lawrence of Arabia" star Peter O'Toole.

According to SuperHeroHype, things got even more fun after Melissa Benoist, who plays the lead role in the "Supergirl" 2015 cast, tweeted a picture of herself with Helen Slater, after the two met up following the announcement that Slater would be joining the cast along with Dean Cain.

"Supergirls then and now.... @HelenSlaterNYC ...is this real life?! So crazy/amazing!!" tweeted Benoist.

Other members of the "Supergirl" 2015 cast are "Ally McBeal" star Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Laura Benanti, Faran Tahir, David Harewood and Mehcad Brooks.
