Any lover of Mexican food and Tex-Mex will agree that the new promo that could give you a Chipotle free burrito or any other menu item without a cost is one of the greatest inventions in food; however, Chipotle Mexican Grill definitely has a hidden intention behind the new promotion.
The fact is that the chain's tofu Sofritas, the menu item released last year for vegetarians and vegans, hasn't done as well as they had previously expected, so they decided to trade any of their very fattening items for free (such as a Chipotle free burrito) in exchange of people trying out their tofu option released last year.
As People Magazine reports, there's no such thing as an actually Chipotle free burrito in itself, but it's more of a "buy one and get another one for free" kind of deal - which is fine for the patrons of the restaurant chain across the country, as they flock to the ethically responsible chain to eat the tofu option.
According to Vox, the Chipotle free burrito strategy came after the chain failed to see much success with their new menu item; as of July 2015, the Sofritas line only accounted for 3.5 percent of Chipotle's sales.
When considering that the casual fast food franchise just had major issues with some of their meat providers in the United States, the percentage of their Sofritas line's revenue looks even lower: last week, the company was forced to take out pork menu items indefinitely in a number of their restaurants, after it was found that some of their suppliers had violated their standards for animal welfare.
As The New York Post reports, the new promo will only last for a couple of weeks: from January 26 to February 15, as they'll be giving out tickets worth a Chipotle free burrito (or any other entrée) that can be redeemed until then.
