North Korea Completely Blacked Out After Attack On Country’s Internet Services

North Korean has been experiencing deteriorating internet service since Saturday. Recent reports have confirmed that the internet service within North Korea has been completely blacked out.

The interruption of North Korea's internet services just came days after the United States pointed their finger to North Korea as the main perpetrator of the Sony Pictures hack. United States President Barack Obama had assured a "proportional" retaliation to those responsible of the attack, although U.S. official would not comment whether the United States have participation in the recent attack on North Korea's internet service.

Analysts and experts report that the internet outages in North Korea could be due to a technical problem in North Korea's part or could be caused by an external attack by means of a cyber-attack.

Doug Madory of Dyn Research, an internet analysis company, said that "For the past 24 hours North Korea's connectivity to the outside world has been progressively getting degraded to the point now that they are totally offline."

Arbor Networks added that the declining state of North Korea's internet service could be brought upon by a distributed denial of service attack or simply known as DDoS, a common technique used by hackers to disrupt internet services. North Korea is one of the most secretive nations in the world and only a handful of its citizens have access to the internet.

Before the attack on North Korea's internet service, the United States have released an official statement that an FBI deep investigation has revealed that the Sony Pictures attack was organized by North Korea or if not supported the hackers responsible for the attack. The hack on Sony Pictures leaked a sizeable amount of the company's secure internal data, these includes private conversations, employee information, movie projects and executive salaries. North Korea has denied the allegations but at the same time praised the attack on Sony.
