The Last Guardian: Still Under Development After Eight Years

It has been more than eight years since Sony officially announced its follow-up to its video-game masterpieces, "Ico" and "Shadow Of The Colossus". The project that goes by the name "Project Trico" is the head developer of the newest game "The Last Guardian".

Unfortunately, eight years since is first announcement, not much have been revealed about the games current development status. Only a couple of trailers and gameplay video has been release on video-sharing sites like YouTube but aside from that there is virtually no information regarding the ambitious game status.

It is important to note that "The Last Guardian" is being developed by the same team that brought unforgettable games "Ico" and "Shadow Of The Colossus." "Ico" was a platform-puzzle game that took place in a desolate and eerie castle where the player takes control of a boy and guides him through a series of puzzles and mazes. "Shadow Of The Colossus" on the other hand is a visually stunning set on an open-world. The game focuses on the story of Wander, a young boy who must defeat 16 colossi in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono. The game has broken conventional video-game thinking. It's vast and brilliantly rendered landscape is second to none but where the game truly shines is its almost minimalist-gameplay. Although both games did not receive much commercial success, they are widely considered as ground-breaking in terms of how a video-game can be played and presented and opened up the possibility of "video-games as art" notion.

Sony released the first trailer of "The Last Guardian" last 2009 and it is important to note that the game is already in its second year of development when the first trailer appeared. The trailer, from a visual standpoint, is nothing short of brilliant. It looked very well rendered and the details given to the characters are impressive. Years after the trailers release not much news have come out of Sony regarding the games status.
