Man shot outside school and three other teenagers after a 22-year-old gunman open fired outside Rosemary Anderson High School, Friday. The alleged suspect was arrested early Saturday. The shooting is believed to be caused by dispute over unpaid drugs of gang members.
The Three teenagers and man shot outside school were brought to local hospital following the shooting that took place at a street corner. The victims include 16-year-old girl, 17-year-old boy, and a 20-year-old man and another 17-year-old girl who were students while some were affiliated for job training, according to CBS News.
Apparently the suspect who is also in his early 20s fled with two other men after the shooting incident. Police authorities apprehended the suspect and had identified as Lonzo Murphy, a member of a gang. He was captured by the Portland Police Bureau gang unit around 1:30 a.m. in North Potland.
Oregon Live reports Murphy was detained at Multnomah County Jail and was charged with second-degree robbery and third-degree assault after three teenagers and man shot outside school. The suspect was also filed with charges for violating parole.
Taylor Zimmers, 16 was critically wounded while the 17-year-old boy and the 20-year-old man shot outside school remained in stable condition. The 17-year-old girl suffered minor injuries after a bullet grazed at her foot.
A handgun was recovered from the vehicle of the suspect upon his arrest. Police investigators had also served a search warrant at an apartment five blocks east of Rosemary Anderson High School, the place where the open fire took place on Friday.
Rosemary Anderson, where teenagers and a man shot outside school is a community-based alternative high school that serves up to 190 "at-risk" students at North location. Students enrolled are either expelled from or dropped out of Portland's public high schools while some are homeless, according to the school website.
Murphy, the suspect for the shooting incident had previous repeated violent records. He has "72 percent failure rate" for failing to have a stable home environment, drug abuse history, criminal records and failing to appear in court. He also admitted that he is a member of "Lincoln Park Blood" gang.
Another suspect involved in teenagers and man shot outside school was captured and identified as Marquel Dugas. Dugas has three years probation at the Multnomah County Jail for cases of third-degree assault and third-degree robbery at the age of 16. He was a "Blood gang" member.
Murphy and Dugas are now waiting for their separate arraignments for the case filed against them after teenagers and a man shot outside school. Dugas will face court hearing on Tuesday while Murphy remains in jail for up to 15 days and is also waiting for court decision for the case.
Taylor Michelle Zimmers, 16, who was shot in the chest, and David Joshua Jackson-Lyday, 20, the man shot outside school are still in the hospital but are now in good condition.
