Barcelona’s Streak Halted By Getafe Defense

FC Barcelona's eight-game winning streak came to a screeching halt when Getafe suppressed them to nil-nil draw. Additionally, the draw put a brake into Lionel Messi's hat-trick drive.

It was a rainy day in Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Barcelona came in with their morale to the highest level after beating Paris Saint-Germain in a Champions League match. Getafe on the other hand is also in a very positive mood after gaining a crucial win against Real Sociedad.

The whole match was football at its finest, both in defense and offense. Barca kept pushing and instilling pressure on the Getafe defense but could not convert on every attack into a goal. Getafe's stonewall defense on the other hand contained Barca's unrelenting attack. Getafe's keeper Vicente Guaita did a wonderful job of keeping Barca's strikes from hitting the back-net.

Messi and Barca's captain Xavi have tried their utmost best to beat Getafe's keeper, unfortunately their plan did not come into fruition. The match ended in the most unspectacular way possible, a draw. A nil-nil draw can neither be called a win nor a loss for either club.

Luis Enrique, the current manager of FC Barcelona pointed out some open spaces in the mid-field battle that cost Barca to halt its winning streak. Barca, in statistics tried to beat the deadlock but Getafe's unforgiving defense denied them the opportunity to do the impossible.

Among the most interesting part of the match was Lionel Messi's free kick that hit the top bar. The Argentine national player, who has played for Argentina's national team, clearly was doomed for the supposedly game-winner free kick.

On the statistics point of view, Cristiano Ronaldo's club, Real Madrid still holds the topmost spot for the best team of the season in the Spanish League. Lionel Messi, recovering from a recent loss, has been very open about winning the Champions League trophy.
