Diet Update: Expert Reveals The Best Diet For Women At The Age Of 40

Women who reach the age of 40 causes their metabolism to slow down so experts pointed out that a healthy diet should be followed and that health should be their number one priority.

Mumbai-based Dr. Mohan Thomas, a leading cosmetic surgeon and the Medical Director of the Cosmetic Surgery Institute, has revealed the diet and gives women a "To Do list" of that to avoid and what foods would be great for women.

First on the list of Dr. Thomas is eating whole grains. He said that it combats the increasing blood pressure of women and the slowing metabolism. According to Dr. Thomas, metabolism slows by one to two percent each decade after the age of 30.

He adds that cutting down on refined grains such as white bread and white rice would be better if you swapped it with whole wheat bread, brown rice, and oats. More fiber means prevention in gaining weight.

He also talked about eating salads with varying fruits and vegetables such as spinach, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, red radish, green or black olives, raisins, oranges and strawberries. These also have fiber and it will produce potassium, antioxidants, and vitamin C. Salads will also keep your skin firm and protect it from the harmful UV rays.

He also suggested that women at the age of 40 and above should cut down on consuming salt as it has negative impacts on your blood pressure. It also makes the body retain more water causing strains in the heart, arteries, the brain and the kidneys.

Another white substance he warned women about is sugar. The body converts sugar to glucose so you might get health risks from it such as possibly getting diabetes, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease or even nerve damage.

He also talked about bacon and cited a research saying that the COX-2 enzymes are more active in your 40s, which causes the join inflammation whenever there is excess in Omega-6 fatty acids than Omega-3 fatty acids. Bacon along with processed mead, egg yolks, margarine, and anything fried are on the list of the no-no foods of the Arthritis Foundation.

Lastly, drinking wine is good for the heart but you should limit it to two-seven glasses per week.
