Former "Grey's Anatomy" star is back with a brand new NBC show. Katherine Heigl new show titled "State of Affairs".

The new show "State of Affairs" opened with a respectable rating, NBC's new show gathered 8.7 million viewers for their pilot episode. The show may have a good rating for their first episode but it is still early to consider them having a winning nightly ratings.

"State of Affairs" is about a woman who presents the President's Daily Briefing. The new show position itself on the top spot in its time slot along with young-adult viewers on television broadcasting but the show is still following ESPN's "Monday Night Football". When it comes to the viewers of all ages, the show only got the fourth spot behind the sport programming NFL, ABC's show "Castle which got 9.4 million viewers and CBS's show "NCIS:Los Angeles" which got 8.8 million viewers.

Although, the show had a good ranking position, the show did not have some good reviews. According to reviews, Heigl has too many tight shots that make her look sad. The show's story has few explosions and plenty of CIA language.

Heigl is good on her romantic comedy movies but playing her role in the new show "State of Affairs" is something out of her comfort zone and she does not portray the role very well.

Heigl's character is Charleston Tucker, a former CIA operative who works as the president's daily briefer. Part of her job is to identify the biggest threats in America and make tough calls on how to deal with them.

Character requires Heigl to look capable, strong and to look badass but Heigl was not able to give justice to the role. However, the ratings and reviews do not stop Heigl from tweeting her happiness towards the show's pilot episode.
