The new Ebola patient in Nebraska had first tested negative of the deadly disease, but recent tests came out positive - he's being transported to a specialized center at the moment, after having fallen victim of the virus.
According to USA Today, there's a new Ebola patient in Nebraska - or so he will be soon enough, says the news outlet. The patient, a Sierra Leone national and surgeon who's permanently residence in the United States, fell ill in his native country while treating people with the virus.
Now that news have come out of Martin Salia's contagion (he's the new Ebola patient in Nebraska), authorities have decided to take him to a specialized center for the disease's control in Omaha, Nebraska, where other patients have been treated before.
It seems that at the time of his contagion, Salia, the new Ebola patient in Nebraska, was helping out with his medicine expertise in the midst of the crisis. According to the Associated Press, Salia was working at the Kissy United Methodist Hospital in Freetown when he first showed symptoms, on November 6.
Sierra Leone has been one of the hardest-hit areas of the virus, along with Liberia.
Due to the nature of his legal status, the patient is now being transported to the United States, where he's married to an American woman and has children with her.
It seems that the new Ebola patient in Nebraska will be treated at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, which has become a beacon of the fight against the spread of the often-deadly virus. It is one of only four hospitals in the U.S. with the experience and biocontainment units necessary to be able to properly handle highly infectious diseases like Ebola, according to CNN.
Salia would be the first Sierra Leone national treated for the virus at the hospital, after two American nationals were cured of the disease in the midst of the virus spread: Dr. Rick Sacra was released back in September, and NBC camera man was released last month.
Because of this, the chances of the new Ebola patient in Nebraska seem fairly good. He's currently stable in the African country and will be moved to Omaha soon.
