So there is this rumor that Steve Rogers will no longer be Captain America and that he will be replaced by a black guy. That being said, we take it that the new guy will probably be Sam Wilson. If you guys remember, Sam Wilson is the Falcon in the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Indeed, Marvel confirmed that in the ALL-NEW CAPTAIN AMERICA #1 written by Rick Remender and Stuart Immonen, Steve Rogers will hand over his mighty shield to Sam Wilson who will fly where the eagles dare. Remender mentioned that Sam will have a completely different attitude compared to that of Steve. Tom Brevoort, editor, added that although the two characters share the same beliefs, Sam is a completely different person with a completely different background. So that's probably where the twist in the new character will come from. Steve Rogers, however, will not completely disappear. He will become the new Cap's strategic advisor. Since Steve's body is no longer strong enough for the task of being Captain America, he handpicked Sam to become his successor.
With this bit of news about the new Captain America, one big question arises: How are the Captain America fans going to respond?
The response is quite positive actually, when they announced the new character teachers sent them photos of classes dominated by black students and a lot of them were wearing costumes of Captain America. America is past the Civil Rights era and the best proof to that is President Barack Obama. Remender said that we are living in a post racial society where skin color doesn't really matter anymore.
This new series is certainly something to look forward to, a different character, and different stories coming up for the next generation of kids. Hopefully with the new Captain America, kids will be enticed to go back to reading comic books instead of just playing online games and waiting for the comic stories to be made into a movie. So good luck to Sam Wilson and soar high Captain America!
