Nicki Minaj' Nazi imagery depicted in her new music video is receiving negative comments from people in the internet requesting for the video to be removed.
New music video for the Minaj song featuring Chris Brown, Lil Wayn and Drake, "Only" is becoming controversial after its release. The video, according to comments from Twitter and some social media, is highly suggestive of the black and white Nazi propaganda films by German director, Leni Riefenstahl.
The animated video contains a lot of explicit content and the song itself could be disturbing for the several drops of the F-bomb in its lyrics but the visual content of the new single's music video caught the attention of the listeners accusing that Nicki Minaj used Nazi imagery in it.
The artists were represented in the song in different characters. Minaj is featured as a dictator, Lil Wayne's character suggests of Henry Ford, Drake appears as a pope and Chris Brown as a high-ranking military leader.
Accusations of Nicki Minaj' Nazi imagery in the video turns out to be stronger with the appearance of army files wearing red arm bands largely similar to that worn by Nazi soldiers. There was also a scene with the lady rapper sitting in a somewhat throne between two huge flags with logo design indicative of a swastika. The logo in the video writes YM which stands for Young Money, Lil Wayne's record label. The character of Nicki Minaj is also wearing a tight suit with this logo in the middle.
Tweets condemning the video emerged soon after the video's release. Some described Minaj as a "sexy Hitler" while others see the video as "disrespectful", "offensive" and "problematic". To a further extent, some tweet for the Nicki Minaj Nazi imagery video to be taken down. Others expressed love for Minaj but also their great disappointment with glorifying the Nazi era.
Nicki Minaj' Nazi imagery allegations used in the video is not the first one of its kind. Pink Floyd used one as a form of political statement. Minaj and the video's director, Jeff Osborne is yet to comment on the issue and accusations.
