In a recent interview, Julianne Moore's Hunger Games intentions became clear: she took the role of Alma Coin in the saga because her kids are huge fans of the book series. In other words, fans will have to thank Julianne Moore's Hunger Games appearance to her two children, Caleb and Liv.
Julianne Moore's Hunger Games appearance is actually among very few of her films her children can actually watch, as the actress' kids are 16 and 12, still not allowed to enter theaters to watch a good portion of their mothers' body of work, mostly focused on adult dramas.
However, when Julianne Moore's Hunger Games offer came up, her kids were the ones who pushed the Academy Award-nominated actress into accepting the role. According to People Magazine, she says it means a lot to them that she's a part of the popular young adults series.
"Most of the films I make are not for kids," she told More Magazine, according to ABC. "My son was in line for the midnight show when 'The Hunger Games' first came out. They both loved the books. For them, my being in Mockingjay was fairly meaningful."
Julianne Moore's Hunger Game role will be that of Alma Coin, the president of the rebellious District 13 of Panem, where The Hunger Games take place. She'll be featured in the last two films of the saga, parts 1 and 3 of "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay," the first of which is set to be released later this year, with the sequel set to be released by the end of 2015.
Moore said she first read the books a few years ago and fell in love with the story and its fight for meaning, which she understood to be something of an empowerment material for teenage kids, as it covers a lot of topics of identity.
