Toni Collette - There are actors who really get into their characters and do it in different ways. For instance, Daniel Day-Lewis is known for living has his character completely in order to get the part as realistic as possible. And Toni Collette has changed her look and shaved her head.
Toni Collette is in London at the moment, filming Miss You Already, a dramatic film directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown, Twilight) and having as co-stars to Drew Barrymore, Dominic Cooper and Paddy Considine.
Miss You Already tells the story of a friendship between Toni Collette's character and Drew Barrymore's character, who are leading different lives and one is starting a family while the other one becomes ill with cancer.
Due to the cancer condition, Toni Collette shaved her hair and "premiered" her new look yesterday, Thursday, at The Goldsmith Pub in Southwark to support the Breast Cancer Campaign, according to the Daily Mail.
At the pub, Toni Collette was with Drew Barrymore, with who she seemed very affectionate and by the pictures of them together, it doesn't seem hard to believe that they could play best friends.
Toni Collette especially surprised due to the fact that just the day before, on Wednesday, she had been photographed getting out of a shop and wearing long hair. So, to see her all of a sudden with almost no hair was going from one extreme to the other.
She wouldn't be the first actress getting completely into the role and shaving her hair for a role. A very famous case is Natalie Portman, who shaved her head for the role of Evie in V For Vendetta (2005), where she was tortured and part of it was shaving her head. To completely get into the role, she actually let her hair be shaved.
Toni Collette's condition is different but perhaps a special scene is filmed where she needs to have a very realistic portrayal.
