Bizzare Ways Celebrities Lose Weight for Movie Roles

It is no secret that actors and actresses prepare for their roles on TV and movies, not only by memorizing their lines and attending acting workshops. Most of them commit to their roles fully and change necessary things to embody their characters as a whole -- may it physically, mentally and emotionally.

Buzzfeed gathered some of the weirdest celebrity diets and eating habits to make themselves fit for their roles perfectly.

Anne Hathaway as 'Fantine' in 'Les Miserables'

Anne Hathaway's performance as Fantine, the mother of Cosette and one of Jean Valjean's workers has been recognized in major and minor award giving bodies. She has won both The Academy Awards and The Golden Globes for Best Supporting Actress in a Dramatic Role, among many others.

Aside from cutting her hair, Anne also need to be a lot thinner to act as the  poor, has-not-eaten-for-days character. She reportedly lost 10 pounds after following a strict cleanse. But, it was not enough. Afterwards, she dropped another 15 pounds after eating two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste per day.

That dedication deserves more awards!

Christian Bale as 'Trevor Reznik' in 'The Machinist'

For this role, Christian Bale needed to lose a whopping 60 pounds in four months, in other words, he needed to drop at least half a pound per day. How did he manage to do it? His daily diet was restricted only to a cup of black, unsweetened coffee and an apple or a can of tuna.

Matthew McConaughey as 'Ron Woodroof' in 'The Dallas Buyers Club'

Matthew's character in the movie was an aids stricken patient. Portraying the role required McConaughey to lose 40 pounds, which he managed to achieve by only eating two egg whites and a piece of white chicken, two cans of diet coke and tapioca pudding.

Beyonce as 'Deena Jones' in Dreamgirls

Queen Bey's "Master Cleanse Diet" was popularized around this time. Many fans have tried this diet that consists of four cups of salt water drank in the morning, followed by a cup of lemonade made from fresh lemons, cayenne pepper and grade B maple syrup.

But, if most of the celebs need to get thinner for their roles, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson needs to do the contrary, he needs to be "as massive" as he can be. In order to maintain his stony body, he eats seven meals per day! This consists of: cod, eggs, steak, chicken, rice, veggies, oatmeal, potato, fish oil and sweet potato.

You'll be as massive as a rock after eating those, for sure! Aside from the list above, do you know of any more celebrity who has taken drastic steps towards changing their bodies for a movie or TV role? Let us know in the comments section below.
