Sarah Jones, a cast member of the popular television show, "Vampire Diaries," died on 20th February, 2014 in an accident involving a train while working on a new film, "The Midnight Rider."
The 27-year-old Sarah was among the twenty crew members who were involved in the accident. According to an authority report, several other people were injured. The accident occurred around 4 p.m. on Thursday. Keith Wright, the Wayne County EMA Director, Sarah Jones was putting some mattresses on the tracks when the CSX train struck them.
Having learnt of Jones death, "The Vampire Diaries" family sent their condolences to the bereaved family. Among the people who sent their condolence messages was Julie Plec, a "TVD" executive, and actor Steven McQueen.
Sarah started her career while interning at "Army Wives," then a very popular television show. Sarah quickly rose through the film industry ranks. She found her passion in cinematography art, in time becoming a respected member of the International Cinematographers family. Sarah Jones was killed by a freight train when she was filming at a local railroad station.
Prompted by Jones' death, the filming industry has raised awareness to sensitize crew members on the importance of taking safety measures. The industry has continued to remind people on the importance of safety protections.
Crew members from "The Originals" and "The Vampire Diaries" are planning to hold a 5K walkathon on 5th October, 2014 in Atlanta to honor Sarah Jones. The 5k participants are planning to live-tweet the walk. In addition, they are also intending to raise money through some online donation links.
Richard and Elizabeth Jones, Jones' parents, and her brother will lead the walkers. Currently, the Jones family has a pending wrongful death lawsuit against the film industry and distributors of the film.
All the walk proceeds will profit the Sarah Jones Foundation, which was established by Jones' parents after her demise. The foundation objective is to use the proceeds to create safety awareness initiatives. The donations are also meant for educational scholarships and to enhance social media outreach.
