‘Scandal’ Winter Finale: Papa Pope Lives Another Day, Mellie Makes Feminist Breakthrough … And Olivia And Fitz Call It Quits? [RECAP]

Shonda Rhimes delivers with drama and great storytelling in the "Scandal" winter finale, as the ladies surrounding the White House take a stand in women's issues as well as their own lives, with both Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) and Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) making their minds to make the best out of themselves.

At the start of the "Scandal" winter finale, Olivia is seen as a ghost of her usual self, having been turned into a First Lady of the White House after Mellie stepped out - and while she hates it, she's actually excelling at it, until things inevitably start getting messier.

The "Scandal" winter finale for 2015, entitled "Baby, It's Cold Outside" in honor of the iconic Christmas song, and as Refinery29 points out in its recap, it's all about the women in the show taking a stand.

First, in the "Scandal" winter finale, Mellie fights a funding bill Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) is trying to push through, but her reasons have nothing to do with her ex: in fact, among the many things the bill changes, it makes Planned Parenthood's funding discretionary - and even though Mellie's very much the Republican, she's first a woman and will not have this as she successfully (and not without problems along the way) filibusters the legislation.

Of course, Olivia helps Mellie out to stop this bill from happening in the "Scandal" winter finale, but according to TV Line, it's hardly the only thing going out with Livvie: as she feels trapped in her First Lady duties, she escapes a big dinner party organized by Fitz, actually gets an abortion (!) and then comes home to have the biggest Olivia and Fitz fight ever - after which she moves out of the White House, in what seems to be the end of their relationship, this time for good.

As The Wall Street Journal reports, other things going down in the "Scandal" winter finale include how Huck (Guillermo Diaz) saved Papa Pope (Joe Morton) only to have him lying around for a while; Jake (Scott Foley) kills Russell (Brian White) over killing his wife and starting Lazarus; Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) still totally has the hots for David (Joshua Malina) and unknowingly makes Elizabeth North (Portia De Rossi) jealous after the Attorney General gives her a bracelet originally meant for her Chief of Staff.

In any case, it was a women's day for the "Scandal" winter finale - and we can't wait to see what happens next year!
