'Louie' Comedy Returns to FX in May After 19-Month Hiatus

After a 19-month-long hiatus, "Louie" is finally returning!

According to Entertainment Weekly, Louis C.K.'s Emmy award-winning FX comedy is returning to television for a fourth season. Its premiere date is May 5, so get ready to watch.  FX announced Thursday that the comedy will return with back-to-back episodes running every Monday at 10 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The new season of the quirky comedy will run for seven weeks, through June 16. FX had only ordered 13 episodes for season four, but C.K. reportedly produced an extra episode, bringing the total to 14 episodes. Entertainment Weekly reported that the extra episode is dedicated to fans who patiently waited for the show's return.

"Louis said he needed extra time between seasons three and four of his show because - even though Louie was the most critically acclaimed television comedy series in America - he needed to make it even better," said John Landgraf, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions. "Based on the first three episodes we've seen, remarkably, he accomplished his goal."

C.K. writes, directs, executive produces and stars in every episode of the show. C.K. has been nominated for several Emmy awards and won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series in 2012. "Louie's" last episode aired in September 2012.

The comedian revealed his plans to delay season four last October.

"It's a luxury I asked for. The last three seasons have been this surge of fun and work and stories and it's been great, but I want the show to keep getting better," C.K. said at the time. "That's my goal. I don't want it to be making the doughnuts. I want it to be something that comes from somewhere important and stays funny. I think I can do better work if I spread things out."
