KFC Delivery Service: First Time in the US, Not Affordable?

The KFC delivery service is now coming to the U.S. However, the new service appears to be only for people willing to pay more, according to The New York Times.

The restaurant chain announced that only two U.S. cities will be able to avail of the KFC delivery service starting Thursday. The cities are Los Angeles and San Francisco. While this is not a first for other countries, this is the first time the chicken chain will be offering the service in the United States.

According to KFC, by the end of the year, it expects the new offering to reach Houston. The chicken giant is also planning to expand to more cities later.

The new KFC delivery service, which will deliver the restaurant chain's chicken, biscuits and coleslaw, have become possible through partnership with online delivery company DoorDash. Customers who want have their favorite KFC meals delivered have to go online and use the DoorDash app or website.

However, the new KFC delivery service is not that affordable. According to the companies, the delivery fee ranges from $4.99 to $6.99, depending on the location. In addition, prices of some of the items are reportedly higher than in KFC restaurants. Items that will retain their original price are value meals, such as the "$20 Family Fill Up." All KFC menu items are now available for order.

It wasn't until recently that restaurant chains in America have added delivery service for their customers.

Food companies such as Chipotle, McDonald's and Starbucks work with Postmates, while Taco Bell, also run by KFC owner Yum Brands, works with DoorDash as well, however only on select cities.

According to USA Today, these restaurant chains have decided to work in collaboration with the delivery service companies because they provide delivery people, which the restaurants don't have to worry about anymore.

Before expanding the service, KFC said it expects to offer the KFC delivery service to 100 restaurants first. The company currently has more than 4,300 U.S. locations in the U.S.

Other countries around the world, such as China, Egypt, Malaysia, Philippines have already been offering the KFC delivery service.
