National Pancake Day 2014: IHOP Celebrates by Offering Free Pancakes

Imagine a stack of hot pancakes with melted butter and dripping with syrup. Sounds good, right?

National Pancake Day is officially here and in honor of celebrating the recently founded unmarked holiday, the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is giving away free short stacks Tuesday morning.

According to IHOP's website, the restaurant will be giving away free pancakes for the ninth year in a row. The promotion will be available starting 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and in exchange for a free short stack of pancakes, the company is asking recipients to leave a donation for charity.

"On March 4, 2014, guests from around the country will once again celebrate National Pancake Day at IHOP restaurants and enjoy a free short stack of Buttermilk pancakes," IHOP's website stated. "In return for the free pancakes, guests will be asked to consider leaving a donation for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals... or other designated local charities.

IHOP opened its doors in 1958 in the suburbs of Los Angeles and now the chain has more than 15,000 restaurant across the country.

The IHOP National Pancake Day idea started in 2006 in an effort to support local charities and so far it has been a success, raising more than $13 million for charities at its more than 1,500 locations across the country, according to its website.

According to MyFoxPhilly.com, for the first time the family friendly restaurant is expanding its charitable National Pancake Day program at store locations in Canada, Puerto Rico, and Mexico.

All guest that make a donation will reportedly get a $5 off coupon good for their next visit. The national promotion does come with some rules, including only one free short stack per person.
