Less than two months after the Independence Bowl's sponsorship relationship with AdvoCare came to an end, the annual college football game has found a new sponsor with some Louisiana flavor.
According to Yahoo Sports, Independence Bowl executive director Missy Setters has announced its partnership with Duck Commander, the company founded by Phil Robertson, the star of the hit A&E reality series "Duck Dynasty," and a former quarterback of the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs.
"We can confirm that Independence Bowl Foundation officials are very excited about a partnership with Duck Commander," Missy Setters, the executive director of the Independence Bowl, said in a statement, according to local paper Shreveport Times.
Setters confirmed that the foundation had reached an agreement with Duck Commander to serve as the honored 38-year-old bowl's sponsor for six years. An official statement will be released on Wednesday, Yahoo Sports reported.
Duck Commander will be replacing 2009-2013 sponsor Advocare. In 2012, AdvoCare reportedly paid $800,000 for its sponsorship. The deal is said to be "on par" with the previous sponsor.
Within the coming six years, the Duck Commander Independence Bowl will reportedly be responsible for pairing teams from the Atlantic Coast Conference and Southeastern Conference. If any situations prevents either league from providing a representative, the Bowl will resort to back-up deals with American and Conference USA.
The sponsorship comes after Duck Commander announced a multi-year agreement with NASCAR as the title sponsor for the Sprint Cup Series race. The event is called "Duck Commander 500".
