NBC's sci-fi series "Heroes" is being revived.
According to Entertainment Weekly, NBC has announced plans to revive "Heroes" in 2015 with a 13-episode miniseries event, titled "Heroes: Reborn." The news was announced in a brief teaser during Saturday's coverage of the Olympics.
The limited time series will bring back original creator and executive producer, Tim Kring. Storylines and characters, though, have been kept under wraps.
Still, Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President announced Saturday that some former cast members might "pop" back in.
"We're thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept," Jennifer Salke, NBC Entertainment President, said. "Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won't rule out the possibility of some of the show's original cast members popping back in."
The original series starred actors Zachary Quinto, Hayden Panettiere, Jack Colman, Ali Larter, Adrian Pasdar, Milo Ventigmiglia, Masi Oka and Ali Larter, and Greg Grunberg; It told the stories of "unrelated ordinary people who discovered they had superhuman abilities" and learned that they are a part of a grand plan to change the world.
"Heroes" aired in 2006 and averaged 14.5 million viewers, but was canceled in 2010 after four seasons, due to low ratings.
"The enormous impact 'Heroes' had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening," Salke said in a statement. "Shows with that kind of resonance don't come around often and we thought it was time for another installment."
